Wave Goodbye to Trash: Join Keep Martin Beautiful for the International Coastal Cleanup
On Saturday, September 16, volunteers throughout Martin County – and across the globe - will take to the beaches and waterways for the annual International Coastal Cleanup.
Keep Martin Beautiful, a nonprofit, volunteer-based organization, has served as the local coordinator of this worldwide event for the past 27 years!
During the International Coastal Cleanup, nearly a thousand volunteers, including individuals, families, businesses, youth groups and civic organizations, put sweat equity into picking up trash and debris along our rivers, shores and waterways. Their efforts beautify the beaches and help to protect marine life and other wildlife from consuming or getting caught in plastics or other debris. Last year Keep Martin Beautiful volunteers collected more than 40,000 pieces of litter and debris.
“Our community thrives when our waterways are clean and healthy. Volunteers are motivated by that. The Coastal Cleanup is a tangible and fun way for people to get together for a common purpose that makes them feel good,” explained Keep Martin Beautiful Executive Director Tiffany Kincaid
It’s easy to pre-register online and sign up for the user-friendly CleanSwell™ app. It’s a digital way for Keep Martin Beautiful to track the litter collected and report the findings to scientists and environmental professionals with the Ocean Conservancy who then analyze litter and debris patterns worldwide.
Keep Martin Beautiful is appreciative of its many sponsors of the 2023 Cleanup: Ampersand, Ashley Capital, Circular Recycling, City of Stuart, ColorLength, Cook Electric, Ecological Associates, FIND, Hutchinson Shores, Jenkins Landscape, Kolter Homes, Live With Grace, Lucido & Associates, Martin County Board of County Commissioners, Meritage Homes, Pulte Homes, Ram Real Estate, RiverKidz, Shearwater, Stuart Corinthian Yacht Club, Three Lakes, Van Vonno Consulting, and the Womans Club of Stuart.
