About the International Coastal Cleanup
The International Coastal Cleanup is a popular, fun and highly visible event in Martin County. Last year, more than 1,800 volunteers in partnership with dozens of sponsors and other supporters, made our local cleanup a success. Families, businesses, civic and school groups dedicated over 2,600 hours collecting more than 17,000 cigarette butts, over 4,500 beverage containers and thousands of other pieces of litter. Our most unusual items last year were a parachute and a wooden shoe.
The purpose of the cleanup is to engage people around the world to remove trash and debris from beaches and waterways, to identify the sources of the litter, and to change the behaviors that cause pollution. |
