Immediately after the cleanup, we invite all of our volunteers, sponsors and community supporters to Flagler Park in Downtown Stuart for a celebration event.

In 2009, volunteers collected 20,159 cigarettes from Martin County waterways, which is the equivalent of more than 1,000 packs of cigarettes. Among the most unusual items found last year included a car axle, a phonebook, hockey sticks, a toy spider, a bubble blower and vinyl fencing.

The purpose of the cleanup is to engage people around the world to remove trash and debris from beaches and waterways, to identify the sources of the litter, and to change the behaviors that cause pollution.

Tens of thousands of individuals across the globe come together each year to participate. Through its international visibility, the ICC has raised public awareness about inappropriate waste management practices and convinced many organizations and communities to become better stewards of our environment.

Through Keep Martin Beautiful's local coordination, volunteers in our area are able to beautify our beaches and coastlines by removing unsightly debris.  We are also able to help protect birds and marine life by reducing the likelihood that these innocent creatures will become injured or entangled in plastics or ingest deadly debris.
