2008 Cleanup Results Coming Soon....

The International Coastal Cleanup is the largest and most successful volunteer event of its kind. Each year, hundred of thousands of volunteers from around the globe participate, descending on beaches, lakes, and streams all in over 90 nations to remove thousands of tons of trash and debris from our coastlines, rivers and lakes.

What makes the International Coastal Cleanup unique is its data collection component. Volunteers record specific types of marine debris being found, allowing the Ocean Conservancy to compile, analyze and track this data year-by-year and make discoveries about the behaviors that cause the debris. The final information is used to educate the public, business, industry, and government officials about the problem. Like The Ocean Conservancy, we believe understanding the problem is the key to finding long-lasting solutions.

This means that the International Coastal Cleanup isn't just about pollution cleanup — it's also about pollution prevention. Through this event we can educate and empower people to become a part of the marine debris solution. The result of this worldwide effort is to clean and protect the environment by eliminating debris that injures wildlife, contaminates our beaches and waterways, and threatens boater safety. Cleanup is not limited to coastal areas since trash often originates inland and is moved by wind and rain to our waterways.

The continued success of the International Coastal Cleanup depends on the participation of caring individuals like you. Just consider the impact you can make by dedicating one day to this worthy cause. Keep Martin Beautiful orchestrates all waterway, river, and beach cleanups in Martin County. Boating, kayaking, diving, and walking groups are needed for all locations. Volunteers may select a site or participate in one of the events managed by Keep Martin Beautiful.

Volunteers are required to pre-register for locations to ensure sufficient supplies are provided. For lists of available locations, contact Daisy at
